Judenduodoodeljuhu
2004 | cd with booklet | in the frame of the residency project ”Fremder Sender" by Haus am Gern
between 25th and 30th of september we occupied the satelite in Kublis, Prattigau, switzerland, and created the 9th broadcast (CD) of the project "Fremder Sender- Haus am Gern"
it contains 2 audio tracks:
1. Red Alert: an associative poem made out of word pais (noun + adjectives) loosely based on our childhood memory of army units coded call-up on the radio. These unit codes were always constructed of two words, which were both meaningful and meaningless. Grammar-wise, they did have a sense, but this immediate sense did not reflect of course what they stood for in this specific context.
As children, for us, these codes were mainly sounds and rhythm, a mystery of the unknown folded in a broken story.
2. Box am bach: a forest ballad about an empty box. Inspired by our week long stay in a remote container a
nd a booklet, "jodel duet”, with a series of compositions of us and the wooden antenna, the project’s mascot.
The title "judenduodoodeljuhu" refers to the YODEL folklore music that is typical to the Prattigau valley (where the Fremder Sender satellite is located), as the project's theme "fremder sender" (foreign transmitter) suggests, we insert our own ideas and pre-conceptions into the Prattigau landscape and culture in an absurd effort to somehow relate to it. Tthe booklet "jodel duet" is a hybridization of the YODEL with the RED ALERT principal: it consists of 8 split images, and 8 pairs of words that form a nonsense Yodel.
